The turtles are beginning to compute iterations of the grid, but at this point we're not sure whether or not they will be successful in staying clear of local maxima. The picture is certainly emerging more slowly than if the turtles were free to roam anywhere on the plane. Note that yellow and purple are simple there for "debugging" purposes (interesting analogy to programming). That is, we want to see if the turtles are indeed changing direction when they head downhill.
