Conclusion

We have presented here a brief description of the finite-element method and its application to the three basic conservation equations that arise in the modeling of glaciers and ice sheets. The accurate description of the physical processes that control the behavior of the world's ice sheets has major applications in understanding the past climate record, as well as in assessing the potential for future climate change.
